Thinking Through Shang-Chi

I’ve written a little bit about Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for MSU Today, but there is more to say. I reached out to my long-time colleague Walter Greason to talk about the film and the implications for imagined futures. As I indicated in this conversation, I do think there is a pattern that makes sense to the emergence of characters like Shang-Chi. As I noted in that essay that the 1970s saw a number of social issues reflected in comics. In this conversation, we dig into the possibilities.

Walter Greason serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of History at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He is the author of numerous articles and books exploring race and culture in the United States and around the world.
